Both cutting edge and vintage, Boom Bip makes his music an amalgam of futuristic dance-rock, retro-electronic, and tribal rhythm with a Be Bop flair, from which his moniker was bit. Boom Bip took a break from his Neon Neon recording session to chat with me at The Boat studio.

About Boom Bip

As a teenaged drum student Bryan Hollon began to dig into the treasure trove of discarded Be Bop records in search of original drum breaks and emerged with a new identity, Boom Bip, the scat term for kick and snare drum hits. Boom Bip quickly evolved from the DJ culture into a full fledged musician and producer with a knack for melodic web-weaving that seems to be born as much from classical and jazz inspiration as it is from the classic rock riffs he first taught himself to play on guitar as a teen.

Bucking the trends of the neo-dance scene that embraces him, Boom Bip separates himself by daring to perform his musical compositions on-stage with a band in a time when pumping a fist in the air to one's pre-produced CD can pass as a live concert.
