Event Date: March 15, 2010 7:30 PM
It's a tad linguistic, but maybe they're onto something. Zócalo dedicates an entire night to 'the road', both as a symbol and as a defining part of our everyday life. It's an especially pointed concept in Los Angeles, where the sole unifying landscape is the gray scale of the freeway pass. How have we accustomed ourselves to life on the road? And is it possible we've lost something because of it?

Event Date: March 14, 2010 8:00 PM
What do you get when you strip the dialogue out of a Shakespeare play? The answer: Fun. Shakespeare Unscripted has been running for some time now, but as the old adage goes, all good things must come to an end. And this is no different, closing its final curtain this Sunday. A concept this novel doesn't role around everyday, however, so it's worth jumping over and making sure you get your laughs in before it's too late. Improvisational comedy always provides a hoot or two anyway.

Event Date: March 12, 2010 6:30 PM
Please help your children harness their creativity. You can rely all you want on the school system for the Math and English stuff, but the arts, I'm sorry to say, are your problem. And if not given their due, your child's fantastic doodling tendencies will sadly fade into distance memories. So bring them out to the Norton Simon this week, and let them know it's okay to think about the box. Introducing them to the work of the world's most famous cubist, Pablo Picasso, will show them that it's okay to think weird. In the 21st century, it might even be encouraged.

Event Date: March 11, 2010 7:30 PM
We all know it's a movie town. But we also know that entering the industry is far from a safe decision. Many self-starters struggle for years to get a foot in the door, and often settle for getting any sort of appendage in any kind of sub-par opening. So if you've got the talent, but lack the business acumen, think of this talk as an instructional guide to Hollywood's lower levels. Hey, you might even leave the theater plotting your next step.

All things considered, we're pretty sure you don't want to miss it.

Wagner is not easy; his work is unforgiving, layered, and demands our full attention. But that is, perhaps, what makes us love his music so much. And if Wagner is a workout for the ears, singing Wagner is ten-fold. Wagnerian singers visit the Hammer Thursday to discuss the challenges that come with singing the works of the great German composer.

Event Date: March 11, 2010 7:00 PM
South African artist Robin Rhode's work turns away from the traditional canvas and utilizes urban public spaces for his art. By creating in spaces that are not specifically reserved for (or even remotely reserved for) art, Rhodes work is wildly dynamic, interacting with and constantly being redefined by its surroundings. And with art no longer reserved for a single canvas, just imagine the possibilities. dynamic, interacting with and constantly being redefined by its surroundings. And with art no longer reserved for a single canvas, just imagine the possibilities.

Event Date: March 7, 2010 4:00 PM
Like many things, the Oscars are only as fun as you make them. Without putting forth any effort, they remain little more than a few hours of watching rich people congratulate one another on a job well-done. But get together with a rowdy group of overly-opinionated cynics, and the awards are transformed into one of the most entertaining nights of the year. That's exactly what Cinefamily has done -- they're always right on -- and you have no reason not to go. It's Sunday night, you don't have plans anyway.
